If you’ve got a mobile device and want a new way to search Google without using your on-screen keyboard, you’re in luck. Google today announced a new feature for its mobile website: Handwrite. In case you’re in a place where it’s inconvenient to type (i.e. in a bumpy car ride) or you don’t want to speak aloud to voice search, Handwrite can solve all your problems. Instead of tapping out alphabets on the keyboard individually, users can now just write what they’re looking for by drawing on the screen of their tablet/smartphone.
This new feature is said to work on iOS 5+ devices, Android 2.3+ phones and Android 4.0+ tablets. I tried it on my Galaxy S2 with Ice Cream Sandwich using Chrome; and iPad 2 on iOS5’s Safari and I gotta say it works magically. While it’s not going to replace the touchscreen keyboard for me, I can see how it can come in handy at times. Just hit settings and enable Handwrite on the Google home page of your mobile browser.
